Warranty / Term & Conditions

1. Budget Beds Warranty & Terms of Sale

Your Peace of Mind, Backed by Quality - At Budget Beds, we take pride in the quality of our products, which are primarily New Zealand made, with some imported ranges. This warranty outlines what is covered, for how long, and the terms of service. It complements your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (CGA). 

2. General Warranty Terms

  • This warranty covers faulty workmanship and defective materials from the date of delivery or pick-up.
  • It applies only to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. 
  • Proof of purchase (original store receipt) must be presented to make a claim. 
  • Warranty is valid for domestic use only. If products are purchased for business purposes, the provisions of the CGA do not apply. 
  • Budget Beds may, at its discretion, repair or replace defective parts or products, subject to inspection. 
  • Claims may be declined if the issue results from misuse, neglect, accidental damage, or factors outside the scope of manufacturing defects. All warranty claims are return-to-base. Customers must return the product to Budget Beds Store at their own cost. 
  • No free pick-up or collection is offered for warranty claims. 

Important: Customers are responsible for ensuring that products are used in accordance with the guidelines provided. Damage from misuse, excessive load, or unsuitable foundations is not covered. 

3. Customised & Made-to-Order Products

  • Customers are solely responsible for ensuring that customised products fit into their home (entryways, staircases, hallways, intended room). 

  • Budget Beds does not accept returns, cancellations, or provide refunds for customised products if they do not fit. 

  • Replacement or exchange is only available for standard (non-customised) products at Budget Beds’ discretion. 

  • This policy does not affect statutory rights under the CGA for defective or faulty products. 

4. Returns – Standard Products

  • Products must be unused, unopened, and must be in original packaging to be eligible for return. 

  • Freight and redelivery charges are the responsibility of the customer. 

  • Budget Beds reserves the right to refuse returns if the product has been opened, used, damaged, or is not in its original condition. 

  • This policy does not affect your rights under the CGA in relation to faulty or defective goods. 

5. Change of Mind Policy

  • Budget Beds is not required by law to accept returns or provide refunds for change-of-mind purchases. 

  • For hygiene reasons, mattresses and bedding cannot be returned or exchanged once opened, used, or removed from original packaging. 

  • As a goodwill gesture, returns of standard products may be accepted if: 

  • Request is made within 7 days of delivery 

  • Product is unused, unopened, and in original packaging 

  • Freight and redelivery charges are paid by the customer 

  • A 25% restocking fee may apply 

  • Customised products cannot be returned or exchanged for change of mind. 

  • Visit our showroom to try mattresses before purchase to ensure the best choice. 

  • This policy does not affect your CGA rights. 

6. Weight Limit Policy – Bed Base

  • All bed bases have a specified maximum weight capacity (Safe Working Load) including mattress, occupants, and any additional load. 

  • Customers are responsible for ensuring their chosen product does not exceed this limit. 

  • Typical examples (for guidance only): 

    • Single / King Single bases: up to 150kg total capacity 

    • Double / Queen bases: 250–300kg total (approx. 125–150kg per side) 

    • King / Super King bases: 300–350kg total (approx. 150–175kg per side) 

    • Adjustable bases:typically 150kg per side 

  • Exceeding the Safe Working Load may cause structural damage, reduced lifespan, or safety risks. Any such damage is not covered under warranty. 

  • This applies to standard and customised products. 

7. Mattress Care & Warranty

  • Proper Installation: Ensure that your new mattress and foundation are correctly installed in your home to avoid any damage. If you choose to transport and install the mattress yourself, seek advice from store personnel to help you avoid any issues. 

  • Rotate it: Unless otherwise stated in the care instructions, we recommend rotating your mattress end-to-end every three months. This simple activity helps to ensure even wear and prolongs the life of your mattress.  

  • Use a Protective Pad: Use a good quality, washable mattress protector to keep your set fresh and free from stains. A protector for the foundation is also recommended. 

  • Water proof Mattress Protector: Shields your mattress from liquids, stains, and unexpected mishaps. Guards against body sweat and moisture – Keeps your mattress clean and hygienic. Whether for children, elderly, or adults, it provides peace of mind and extra protection. 

  • Let it Breathe: If you detect a slight "new product" odour, leave the mattress and foundation uncovered and well-ventilated for a few hours to allow resh air to circulate. 

  • Don't Dry Clean: Avoid using dry cleaning agents or spot removers, as the chemicals may be harmful to the fabric or underlying materials. Light vacuuming or using a soft brush are the only recommended cleaning methods. If you need to tackle a stain, use mild soap with cold water and apply lightly. Never soak the mattress or foundation. 

  • It's Not a Trampoline: Discourage children from jumping on the mattress, as rough-housing could damage the interior construction of the bed and cause injury. 

Understanding Mattress Firmness and Body Weigh: The way a mattress feels is not the same for everyone as it’s individual preference. However, one of the most important factors is body weight. 

  • A mattress that feels firm to a lighter person may feel medium or soft to someone heavier, as the extra weight creates more pressure and allows the body to sink in further. 

  • Conversely, someone lighter may not sink in as much, so the same mattress will feel firmer to them. 

Mattress Firmness & Body Weight: 

  • In general, a mattress feel may vary depending on individual body weight: 

    • For example: <60kg: may find a particular mattresses Firm 

    • At the same time, 60–80kg may feel itMedium 

    • And >80kg may find the same mattress Soft/Plush 

Foundation Requirements: 

  • Mattresses must be placed on a flat, stable foundation (solid slats or solid platform base). 

  • Box springs and flexi-slat beds are not recommended and may void warranty. 

Indentation & Normal Wear: 

  • Body impressions up to 2 inches (5 cm) are normal and not considered faults. 

  • Rotate mattress end-to-end every 2 weeks for first 3 months, then quarterly. 

  • Warranty covers: broken or loose springs/coils, wires protruding through surface. 

  • Warranty does notcover: comfort preference, stains, burns, pilling, normal settling, bent wires from handling, damage from unsuitable foundation. 

Mattress Handles: 

  • Handles are for positioning only; using them to lift full mattress weight is misuse and not covered under warranty.

  • 2 years Warranty– Comfort & Rest, Back Bliss, Spine Tune, DreamPod, Lucid, CoreAlign Firm, Placid Balance Perfection, Pure Sleep, Calibration, Night Therapy, Snooze 

  • 5 years warranty – SleepMax Essential, CoreAlign NZ Made, KiwiRester, SleepMax Pillow Top Pocket Spring, Posture Care, Posture Elite

  • Fabrics treated with aftermarket repellents are excluded. 

  • Rotate cushions regularly for longevity.

  • Natural timber variations (colour, grain, knots) are not defects. 

  • Timber reacts to climate (expansion, cracking, warping) — not covered. 

  • Recycled timber may include nail holes or insect marks — not defects. 

  • MDF must be kept dry; moisture damage is not covered. 

12. Exclusions

Warranty does not cover: 

  • Misuse, abuse, or neglect 

  • Accidental damage or improper assembly 

  • Normal wear and tear, fading, staining, soiling, pilling, wrinkling 

  • Modifications or repairs not authorised by Budget Beds 

  • Customised products that do not fit, except where faulty 

  • Damage from exceeding weight limits or unsuitable foundations 

13. Storage & Collection Policy – Budget Beds

  • We’re happy to hold your new bed for you while you get ready to receive it. The first 30 days of storage are free. 

  • If you need us to hold it longer, a small weekly storage fee applies: 

    • Mattress: $10 per week (any size) 

    • Bed base/frame: $15 per week (any size) 

    • Mattress & base/frame combo (any size): $20 per week 

  • These charges cover the cost of keeping your items safe in our warehouse and must be paid before delivery or collection. 

If your goods haven’t been collected within 6 months, and we’ve been unable to get in touch with you, or we have agreed to store them for you (a written approval to store is required), we may treat the order as abandoned. In that case, we may resell or dispose of the items and any payments made will be kept to cover costs. 

Abandoned Goods 
Where goods are deemed abandoned, Budget Beds reserves the right to: 

  • Dispose of or resell the goods at its sole discretion, and 

  • Retain any amounts paid by the customer as liquidated damages for storage, handling, and administration costs, without further liability to the customer. 

No Liability 
Budget Beds shall not be liable for any loss, damage, or claim by the customer in respect of goods deemed abandoned under this clause.

14. Your Rights Under the CGA

Nothing in this warranty limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, which ensures products must be: 

  • Of acceptable quality 

  • Fit for purpose 

  • Match their description 

If a fault occurs outside the stated warranty but within a reasonable lifespan, you may still have rights under the CGA. 

15. Warranty Claim Process with Terms & Conditions:

We want you to love your new bed. Here’s how our warranty works in simple terms: 

  • Proof of purchase:Keep your invoice – we’ll need it to process any warranty claim. 

  • Let us know quickly:If there’s a problem at delivery, tell us within 24 hours. For anything that develops later, just contact us as soon as you notice it. 

  • Photos or videos help:Sending us a quick photo or video makes it easier to understand and resolve the issue. 

  • Return-to-base warranty: Our warranty isreturn-to-base, which means transportation costs are the responsibility of the purchaser unless the product was supplied faulty. 

  • Auckland customers:Our first inspection visit is free. If we come out and no fault is found, a call-out fee of $70 may apply. 

  • Outside Auckland:You’ll need to return the product to us at your cost. If it’s faulty, we’ll fix or replace it and send it back to you free of charge. 

  • What’s not covered: 

  • Choosing the wrong mattress type 

  • Damage from moving the bed to another address 

  • Normal wear and tear or misuse 

We’ll assess your claim and let you know the outcome within5–7 working days.
